Description
Voveran Emulgel is a topical formulation of Diclofenac, which is used to treat localized pain and inflammation. It is produced by Novartis India Ltd. and is commonly used for conditions such as joint pain, muscle strains, sprains, and soft tissue injuries. The emulgel form combines the properties of an emulsion (oil in water) and a gel, making it easy to apply and allowing for better absorption through the skin.
Composition:
- Diclofenac (1.16% w/w) – The active ingredient in Voveran Emulgel is Diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that helps reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation. It is formulated in a gel form that allows for localized application on affected areas.
Mechanism of Action:
- Diclofenac works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), which are involved in the production of prostaglandins—chemicals that promote inflammation, pain, and fever. By blocking COX, diclofenac reduces the production of prostaglandins, thereby reducing pain and inflammation in the targeted area.
- The emulgel formulation allows for fast and effective penetration through the skin to provide relief at the site of pain or inflammation, without causing systemic side effects commonly associated with oral NSAIDs.
Indications:
Voveran Emulgel is primarily used for the following conditions:
- Osteoarthritis: For localized joint pain and inflammation, particularly in the knees, wrists, and elbows.
- Musculoskeletal Pain: For muscle strains, sprains, and injuries that cause pain and swelling.
- Soft Tissue Injuries: Such as tendonitis, ligament injuries, and bruises.
- Back Pain: For localized relief of acute or chronic lower back pain.
- Post-operative Pain: To alleviate pain following surgery, particularly after musculoskeletal procedures.
- Sports Injuries: To reduce inflammation and pain from injuries like sprains and strains.
Application and Dosage:
Voveran Emulgel should be applied directly to the affected area of the skin:
- Clean the affected area to remove dirt or other substances before applying the gel.
- Apply a thin layer of the gel to the painful or swollen area.
- Gently massage the gel into the skin until it is fully absorbed.
- Apply 3 to 4 times a day or as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
Important:
- Do not apply Voveran Emulgel on broken or irritated skin.
- Wash your hands after applying the gel to avoid contact with your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Avoid covering the treated area with tight bandages or dressing unless instructed by a healthcare professional.
Side Effects:
Although Voveran Emulgel is generally well-tolerated due to its topical application, it may still cause some side effects:
- Skin Irritation: Mild irritation, redness, or itching at the application site.
- Allergic Reactions: Rare but can include rash, swelling, or more severe reactions such as difficulty breathing.
- Photosensitivity: Increased sensitivity to sunlight, which may lead to sunburn more easily.
- Contact Dermatitis: In rare cases, prolonged use can cause an allergic rash or dermatitis.
If you experience severe irritation, blistering, or other signs of an allergic reaction, discontinue use and consult a doctor immediately.
Precautions:
- Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, and open wounds.
- Do not use on large areas of the body or for prolonged periods unless recommended by a healthcare provider.
- Children and infants: Use only under medical supervision, as the safety of diclofenac in children under 12 years of age has not been well established.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Voveran Emulgel should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is best to consult a doctor before use, especially during the third trimester of pregnancy.
Drug Interactions:
- Voveran Emulgel is for topical use only, so it is less likely to interact with other oral medications. However, if you are using other topical treatments (such as other NSAID-based gels or ointments), consult your healthcare provider to avoid any potential interactions.
- Use with other topical corticosteroids or NSAIDs may increase the risk of side effects.
Storage:
- Store Voveran Emulgel at room temperature.
- Keep it in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Return Policy:
- As with most prescription medications, Voveran Emulgel is typically non-returnable once purchased.
