Description

Rabekind DSR is a medication used to treat conditions related to excess stomach acid and gastrointestinal issues. It is a combination of two active ingredients:

Composition:

1. Rabeprazole (20 mg) – A proton pump inhibitor (PPI).
   • Rabeprazole works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, providing relief from symptoms of acid-related conditions like heartburn, acid reflux, and ulcers.
2. Domperidone (10 mg) – A prokinetic agent.
   • Domperidone helps by promoting gastric motility, meaning it facilitates the movement of food and stomach contents through the digestive tract. This is particularly useful in conditions where there is delayed stomach emptying (gastroparesis) or issues like nausea and bloating.

Indications (Uses):

Rabekind DSR is typically prescribed for:

• Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): To reduce the symptoms of acid reflux such as heartburn and regurgitation.
• Peptic Ulcers: To help treat or prevent ulcers in the stomach or duodenum, which are caused by excess stomach acid.
• Gastroparesis: A condition where the stomach takes too long to empty its contents, leading to nausea, vomiting, and bloating.
• Nausea and Vomiting: Associated with gastrointestinal disorders.
• Functional Dyspepsia: A term used for general indigestion or discomfort in the upper abdomen.

How It Works:

• Rabeprazole reduces stomach acid production by inhibiting the proton pump in the stomach lining, which is responsible for secreting stomach acid. This reduces acid-related symptoms and helps in healing ulcers.
• Domperidone works by increasing the movement of the stomach and intestines, preventing nausea and helping the digestive process by moving food along more effectively.

Dosage:

• The usual dosage for Rabekind DSR is one capsule taken once daily, usually before breakfast. However, the dosage and duration of treatment can vary depending on the condition being treated and the doctor’s instructions.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Diarrhea or constipation
• Dry mouth
• Abdominal discomfort

Rare but serious side effects:

• Long-term use of PPIs like rabeprazole may lead to deficiencies in nutrients like magnesium or vitamin B12.
• Cardiac issues: Domperidone has been associated with rare cases of heart rhythm problems, particularly at higher doses or in patients with pre-existing heart conditions.

Precautions:

• Kidney or liver problems: People with impaired kidney or liver function should use this medication with caution and under medical supervision.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Rabekind DSR should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor. Domperidone, in particular, should be avoided during breastfeeding as it can pass into breast milk.
