Description
Rabekind 20 – Strip of 15 Tablets
Rabekind 20 – Strip of 15 Tablets is a medication used primarily for treating conditions related to excess stomach acid production, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric ulcers, and duodenal ulcers.
Composition:
Each Rabekind 20 tablet contains:
- Rabeprazole Sodium (20 mg): Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It blocks the proton pump, which is responsible for secreting hydrochloric acid in the stomach lining. This helps in healing ulcers, reducing acid reflux, and preventing damage to the esophagus.
Uses:
Rabekind 20 is prescribed for:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): It reduces acid reflux and the associated symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation, and helps in healing damage caused by stomach acid in the esophagus.
- Peptic Ulcers: It is used to heal both gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers by decreasing stomach acid secretion, which promotes healing and prevents ulcer recurrence.
- Helicobacter pylori Eradication: Rabeprazole may be used in combination with antibiotics as part of a regimen to treat H. pylori infections, which are a common cause of peptic ulcers.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: A condition where the stomach produces too much acid, Rabekind 20 can be used to manage and reduce the acid levels.
- Dyspepsia (Indigestion): It helps in treating indigestion, especially if it is related to acid reflux.
Dosage:
The typical dose of Rabekind 20 is:
- GERD: One tablet of Rabekind 20 once a day, usually before a meal.
- Peptic Ulcers: One tablet of Rabekind 20 once daily, generally before breakfast.
- H. pylori Eradication: It may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin and amoxicillin) for a course of treatment, usually for 7-14 days.
- The dose can vary depending on the individual’s condition and the doctor’s recommendations.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of Rabekind 20 include:
- Headache.
- Nausea or stomach discomfort.
- Diarrhea.
- Abdominal pain.
- Flatulence (gas).
- Dizziness.
- Fatigue.
Rare but serious side effects include:
- Severe allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing).
- Severe stomach pain, which could indicate a more serious issue like pancreatitis.
- Long-term use may lead to nutrient deficiencies, especially vitamin B12 and magnesium.
- Bone fractures: Prolonged use of PPIs has been associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, particularly in older adults.
Precautions:
- Liver Disease: If you have liver problems, your doctor may adjust the dosage or monitor liver function during treatment.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Rabekind 20 should only be used during pregnancy if necessary. It is not recommended for use during breastfeeding unless absolutely required, as it is not known if it passes into breast milk.
- Kidney Disease: Patients with kidney impairment should use this drug cautiously.
- Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about other medications you are taking, especially drugs like warfarin, methotrexate, and antifungal drugs, as Rabeprazole can interact with these.
- Long-term use: Prolonged use of Rabeprazole (especially over 1 year) may lead to complications like an increased risk of gastrointestinal infections or bone fractures.
Drug Interactions:
- Warfarin: Use of Rabekind 20 with warfarin (a blood thinner) may increase the risk of bleeding, so regular monitoring is necessary.
- Methotrexate: High doses of methotrexate can be affected by Rabeprazole, leading to increased toxicity.
- Clopidogrel: Rabeprazole can reduce the effectiveness of clopidogrel (a blood thinner) when used together. It’s essential to consult a doctor if both are required.
- Digoxin: There is a potential for Rabeprazole to increase the levels of digoxin (a heart medication), which may require dose adjustments.
