Description
Sparacid DS Syrup – 100 ml Bottle
Composition (Per 5 ml):
- Sucralfate IP – 1 g
(Sucralfate is a medication that works by forming a protective coating over ulcers and damaged areas in the stomach and intestines, which helps to promote healing and prevent further damage from stomach acid.)
Indications:
- Sparacid DS Syrup is typically used to treat:
- Peptic ulcers (including gastric and duodenal ulcers).
- Gastritis and esophagitis (inflammation of the stomach or esophagus).
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
- Mucosal injury due to the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Acid reflux and to prevent ulcer recurrence.
- It can also be used as a protective agent during the healing of the gastrointestinal tract lining.
Dosage:
- As prescribed by a healthcare provider, but typical dosages may include:
- Adults: 10 ml (containing 2 g of Sucralfate) taken two to four times a day, ideally before meals and at bedtime.
- Children: The dosage is usually based on the child’s age and weight, but typically ranges from 5 ml to 10 ml per dose.
The duration of treatment depends on the condition being treated, usually 4-8 weeks for ulcers, with adjustments made based on the patient’s response.
Storage Instructions:
- Store the syrup in a cool, dry place at room temperature (between 15°C and 30°C).
- Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
- Do not freeze.
Warnings:
- Prescription Required: Sparacid DS Syrup should be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
- Not for Use in Patients with Renal Impairment: Patients with severe kidney disease should use caution as Sucralfate can affect kidney function.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Always consult a healthcare provider before using this medication if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Drug Interactions: Sucralfate may interact with other medications, such as antibiotics, anticoagulants, and antacids. It is important to discuss all medications with your doctor before starting treatment.
- Not a Substitute for Antacids: Sucralfate does not neutralize stomach acid but rather works to form a protective barrier. It may not be effective if used alone for conditions that require acid neutralization.
Important Notes:
- Side Effects: Sucralfate is generally well-tolerated, but common side effects may include constipation, dry mouth, nausea, or gastric discomfort. If you experience severe side effects like difficulty swallowing, severe constipation, or allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), seek medical help immediately.
- Dosage Timing: It is important to take Sparacid DS Syrup on an empty stomach, typically before meals to allow maximum effectiveness.
- Avoid Antacids: Do not take antacids within 30 minutes of taking Sucralfate, as this may interfere with its effectiveness.
