Sitaxa DM 10/100/1000 is a combination medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains three active ingredients: Sitagliptin, Metformin, and Glimepiride. Each component works in a unique way to help control blood sugar levels effectively.

Active Ingredients:

1. Sitagliptin (10 mg):
   • Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor (Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 inhibitor). It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which help stimulate insulin production in response to food intake and reduce glucose production by the liver. This helps improve overall blood sugar control.
2. Metformin (1000 mg):
   • Metformin is a biguanide that helps lower blood sugar by:
     • Reducing glucose production in the liver.
     • Improving insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat cells, allowing them to use glucose more effectively.
     • Decreasing glucose absorption in the intestines, which helps control post-meal blood sugar levels.
3. Glimepiride (100 mg):

Indications:

Sitaxa DM 10/100/1000 is used for:

Dosage:

• The usual dosage of Sitaxa DM 10/100/1000 is 1 tablet per day, but your doctor may adjust the dose based on your individual blood glucose levels and response to treatment.
• Sitaxa DM 10/100/1000 is typically taken with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects (especially from Metformin).

Side Effects:

As with all medications, Sitaxa DM 10/100/1000 may cause side effects, including:

• Common side effects:
  • Gastrointestinal discomfort (such as nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or loss of appetite) – these are more common with Metformin.
  • Headache or dizziness.
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): Especially when used with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas.

  • Lactic acidosis: A rare but serious condition caused by Metformin, which can lead to muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or feeling cold.

  • Severe hypoglycemia: Symptoms include confusion, sweating, shaking, dizziness, and hunger.
  • Allergic reactions: Rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing may indicate an allergic response to any of the ingredients.

Precautions:

• Kidney function: Both Sitagliptin and Metformin are processed by the kidneys, so kidney function should be monitored regularly. People with impaired kidney function may need a dose adjustment.

• Pancreatitis: Sitagliptin may increase the risk of pancreatitis in rare cases. If you experience severe abdominal pain, stop the medication and consult a doctor right away.
• Kidney function: Monitoring kidney function is critical, as both Metformin and Sitagliptin can accumulate in people with impaired kidney function, increasing the risk of side effects.
