Sitara-D 50/10 (Strip of 10 Tablets) is a combination medication for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It combines two active ingredients: Sitagliptin (50 mg) and Dapagliflozin (10 mg), targeting blood sugar control through complementary mechanisms.

Composition:

1. Sitagliptin (50 mg):
   • A DPP-4 (Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4) inhibitor.
   • Enhances the levels of incretin hormones, leading to increased insulin secretion and reduced glucose production in the liver.
2. Dapagliflozin (10 mg):
   • An SGLT2 (Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter-2) inhibitor.
   • Reduces blood sugar by promoting the excretion of excess glucose through urine.
   • May aid in weight loss and reduce blood pressure in diabetic patients.

Uses:

• Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults.
• Recommended for patients whose blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled by diet, exercise, or monotherapy.
• Reduces the risk of diabetes-related complications like cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, and neuropathy.

Dosage and Administration:

• Typically, one tablet daily, taken with or without food.
• Must be taken as directed by a healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects:

1. Common Side Effects:
   • Increased frequency of urination (due to dapagliflozin).
   • Mild headache, runny nose, or sore throat.
2. Serious Side Effects:
   • Pancreatitis: Symptoms include severe abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting (linked to sitagliptin).
   • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Symptoms include painful urination or cloudy urine (linked to dapagliflozin).
   • Dehydration or dizziness (due to excess glucose excretion).

Precautions:

• Not recommended for:
  • Patients with severe kidney or liver impairment.
  • Individuals with Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Maintain proper hydration to avoid dehydration or kidney-related side effects.
• Inform your doctor if you have a history of recurrent urinary tract infections or pancreatitis.
