Sitara 100 mg – Strip of 10 Tablets

Sitara 100 mg (Strip of 10 Tablets) contains Sitagliptin (100 mg) as its active ingredient. It is used for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus to help control blood sugar levels in adults, either alone or in combination with other anti-diabetic medications.

Composition:

• Sitagliptin (100 mg):
  • A Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor.
  • Enhances incretin hormones, which help regulate blood sugar by:
    • Increasing insulin release after meals.
    • Reducing glucose production in the liver.

Uses:

• Manages Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults.
• Helps prevent complications such as kidney damage, heart disease, and neuropathy.
• Can be prescribed alone or alongside other drugs like metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

Dosage and Administration:

• The usual dose is 100 mg once daily, with or without food.
• Dosage adjustments may be required for patients with reduced kidney function.

Possible Side Effects:

1. Common Side Effects:
   • Headache, upper respiratory infections (e.g., runny nose, sore throat), or mild stomach discomfort.
2. Rare but Serious Side Effects:
   • Pancreatitis: Symptoms include severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, and nausea.
   • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing).
   • Hypoglycemia, especially when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.

Precautions:

• Not suitable for patients with:
  • Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Severe kidney impairment (dose adjustment is necessary).
• Inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of pancreatitis, gallstones, or high triglycerides.
• Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be discussed with your doctor.
