Description
Reclimet OD 60mg – Strip of 15 Tablets
Reclimet OD 60mg is an oral antidiabetic medication designed for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It comes in a strip of 15 uncoated bilayered tablets, each containing Gliclazide and Metformin Hydrochloride, which work together to control blood glucose levels. This combination therapy helps patients achieve better blood sugar regulation, particularly when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Composition:
Each uncoated bilayered tablet of Reclimet OD 60mg contains:
- Gliclazide IP: 60 mg
- Metformin Hydrochloride IP: 500 mg
Gliclazide is a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, which helps to reduce blood sugar levels. Metformin is an insulin sensitizer that decreases glucose production in the liver and improves the body’s response to insulin.
Indications and Uses:
Reclimet OD 60mg is prescribed for:
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: It helps in controlling blood glucose levels, especially when lifestyle changes like diet and exercise are insufficient on their own.
- It is useful in managing blood sugar levels in both fasting and post-meal situations.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual dosage for Reclimet OD 60mg is one tablet taken once or twice daily, preferably with meals. This helps to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects and ensures better absorption of the medication. The exact dosage should always be determined by the prescribing healthcare provider based on the patient’s individual needs.
Precautions:
- Kidney Function: Reclimet OD 60mg should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, and renal function should be monitored regularly.
- Hypoglycemia Risk: There is a risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when taking Gliclazide, especially if combined with other medications or if meals are missed.
- Liver Function: It should be used cautiously in patients with liver issues.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Reclimet OD 60mg is not typically recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary. Consult a doctor for alternatives if needed.
Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal issues: Such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which are more common with Metformin.
- Hypoglycemia: Symptoms include sweating, shaking, dizziness, and confusion, usually due to Gliclazide.
- Other side effects: Mild skin reactions, fatigue, or a metallic taste (rare).
Storage Instructions:
Store Reclimet OD 60mg tablets in a cool, dry place away from moisture and sunlight. The temperature should not exceed 30°C. Keep the medication out of reach of children.
