✅ Composition:

• Iron Isomaltoside 1000 – 100 mg/ml
  → Each 5 ml vial contains 500 mg of elemental iron

💊 Therapeutic Use:

Isofer is used for the treatment of iron deficiency, especially in cases where oral iron therapy is:

• Ineffective

• Not tolerated

• Not feasible (e.g., severe deficiency or chronic conditions)

Common indications:

• Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA)

• Chronic kidney disease (CKD)

• Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

• Postpartum iron deficiency

• Iron loss due to surgery or blood loss

⚙️ Mechanism of Action:

Iron Isomaltoside is a stable iron–carbohydrate complex. It releases iron slowly to bind with transferrin and ferritin for incorporation into hemoglobin and other iron-dependent enzymes.

💉 Administration Guidelines:

• Given by healthcare professionals only

• Can be given as:

  • IV slow bolus injection

  • IV infusion diluted in saline

• Dose and frequency depend on:

  • Hemoglobin level

  • Body weight

  • Total iron deficit

🧪 Monitoring Required:

• Hemoglobin (Hb)

• Serum ferritin

• Transferrin saturation

• Kidney function (if relevant)
