Description

DAPAONE 10MG – Strip of 10 Tablets

DAPAONE 10mg is a medication that contains Dapagliflozin, an oral medication primarily used in the treatment of diabetes and certain other conditions. It is part of a class of drugs known as SGLT2 inhibitors (sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors).

Composition:

Each tablet of DAPAONE 10mg contains 10 mg of Dapagliflozin as the active ingredient.

Indications:

DAPAONE (Dapagliflozin) is used primarily for the treatment of:

  1. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Dapagliflozin helps control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes by preventing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, promoting glucose excretion in urine.
  2. Heart Failure: Dapagliflozin may be used in certain cases of heart failure to reduce the risk of hospitalization due to heart failure and improve heart function.
  3. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): It is also used in patients with chronic kidney disease, helping to slow the progression of kidney damage.

Mechanism of Action:

Dapagliflozin works by inhibiting the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys. This protein normally helps the kidneys reabsorb glucose from the urine back into the bloodstream. By blocking this transporter, Dapagliflozin causes more glucose to be excreted in the urine, thus lowering blood glucose levels.

Additionally, Dapagliflozin has a beneficial effect on fluid balance, which helps in heart failure and chronic kidney disease management.

Dosage:

  • The typical dose of DAPAONE 10mg is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food.
  • In some cases, the dose may be adjusted by your doctor, but the standard starting dose is 10 mg daily.
  • DAPAONE is usually prescribed as part of a broader treatment plan, which may include diet, exercise, and other medications.

Side Effects:

Like all medications, DAPAONE 10mg can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include:

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs): Increased glucose in the urine can promote bacterial growth, leading to UTIs.
  • Genital infections: This includes yeast infections (e.g., thrush) in both men and women due to the increased sugar content in the urine.
  • Increased urination: Some people may experience more frequent urination or a feeling of urgency to urinate.
  • Dehydration: Dapagliflozin can lead to dehydration due to its diuretic effect.
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension): It may lower blood pressure, which can cause dizziness or fainting, especially in the elderly or those on other blood pressure-lowering medications.
  • Elevated blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia): It can cause an increase in blood potassium levels, which may lead to serious heart-related issues.

Less common but more serious side effects can include:

  • Ketoacidosis: A rare but serious condition where the body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones, potentially leading to diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Kidney issues: Changes in kidney function can occur, and kidney function should be monitored regularly.

Precautions:

  • Kidney function: Since DAPAONE is processed by the kidneys, it should be used cautiously in patients with kidney problems. Kidney function should be assessed before starting and during treatment.
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis: Patients with diabetes, especially type 1, are at a higher risk of developing diabetic ketoacidosis. If you notice symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, or confusion, seek medical help immediately.
  • Low blood pressure: If you’re already on medications for high blood pressure, Dapagliflozin may increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure. Stay hydrated and monitor your blood pressure.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Dapagliflozin is not recommended during pregnancy, and should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Always consult your healthcare provider if you’re pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Administration:

  • Take DAPAONE 10mg exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • The tablet should be swallowed whole with water.
  • Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor, as doing so may cause your blood sugar levels to rise.
