CTD-T 12.5/80 Tablet – Detailed Information

Overview

CTD-T 12.5/80 is a high-strength combination antihypertensive medicine containing Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg and Telmisartan 80 mg. It is used for the effective management of moderate to severe hypertension, especially in patients who require strong blood pressure control or who are not adequately managed on monotherapy. This dual-action formulation offers powerful, long-lasting, and stable blood pressure reduction.

Composition

Each film-coated tablet contains:

  • Chlorthalidone IP – 12.5 mg

  • Telmisartan IP – 80 mg

(Strip of 10 Tablets)

Description

CTD-T 12.5/80 combines the benefits of a long-acting diuretic and a high-dose ARB:

1. Chlorthalidone (12.5 mg)

A thiazide-like diuretic that:

  • Helps remove excess fluid and sodium

  • Reduces blood volume

  • Lowers pressure in the blood vessels

  • Provides extended BP control for 48–72 hours

The 12.5 mg dose ensures a strong and sustained diuretic effect.

2. Telmisartan (80 mg)

A high-dose Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) that:

  • Relaxes and widens blood vessels

  • Blocks angiotensin II to prevent arterial tightening

  • Provides full 24-hour blood pressure control

  • Reduces strain on the heart and protects the kidneys

Together, these ingredients offer a synergistic and powerful antihypertensive effect.

Uses

CTD-T 12.5/80 is prescribed for:

  • Moderate to severe hypertension

  • Patients uncontrolled by Telmisartan 40/80 alone

  • Long-term BP management

  • Reducing the risk of stroke and heart attack

  • Heart and kidney protection in hypertensive patients

  • Salt-sensitive hypertension

  • Resistant hypertension

This combination is especially suitable for individuals with high cardiovascular risk.

How CTD-T 12.5/80 Works

Chlorthalidone:

  • Increases excretion of sodium and water

  • Decreases circulating blood volume

  • Reduces peripheral vascular resistance

Telmisartan:

  • Blocks angiotensin II receptors (AT1)

  • Dilates blood vessels

  • Reduces aldosterone secretion

  • Ensures smooth and consistent BP control throughout the day

These actions provide enhanced and sustained antihypertensive activity over 24 hours or longer.

Benefits

  • Strong dual-mechanism BP control

  • Long-lasting once-daily dosing

  • Helps prevent stroke, heart attack & kidney complications

  • Suitable for patients needing high-dose therapy
