Description
The Asthalin Respules pack containing 5 x 2.5 ml respules is used for nebulized inhalation and is primarily used to treat bronchospasm associated with conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Here are the full details regarding its composition and usage:
Composition of Each 2.5 ml Respule:
- Salbutamol Sulphate IP: Each 2.5 ml respule contains 2.5 mg of Salbutamol Sulphate, which is equivalent to 2.0 mg of Salbutamol.
- Salbutamol is a bronchodilator, which works by relaxing the muscles in the airways, leading to easier airflow into the lungs and relief from symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing.
- It helps to treat and prevent bronchospasm in conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory conditions.
- Normal Saline Solution (q.s.): The rest of the formulation consists of normal saline (0.9% sodium chloride), which is used as a diluent to make the solution suitable for nebulization. It helps in delivering the medication via a nebulizer as a fine mist that can be inhaled into the lungs.
Presentation:
- The pack contains 5 respules, each containing 2.5 ml of solution, making a total volume of 12.5 ml per pack.
- The solution is intended for use with a nebulizer.
Usage:
- Dosage: The recommended dosage depends on the severity of the condition and the doctor’s prescription. Generally, for adults and children above a certain age (usually over 4 years), the typical dose is one respule (2.5 ml) to be used via nebulization.
- Administration: The respule is to be opened, and its contents are placed in the nebulizer chamber. The nebulizer then converts the solution into a fine mist, which can be inhaled through a mouthpiece or face mask.
- Frequency: It may be prescribed to be used 2 to 4 times a day, but the exact frequency should be determined by a healthcare provider.
Precautions:
- Overuse: It is important not to exceed the prescribed dosage, as overuse of Salbutamol may lead to side effects such as tremors, palpitations, or increased heart rate.
- Side Effects: Common side effects may include nervousness, shaking (tremors), headache, dizziness, and a dry mouth. Severe side effects are rare but should be immediately reported to a healthcare provider if they occur.
- Contraindications: Asthalin Respules should not be used if the patient is allergic to any of the ingredients, especially Salbutamol or related compounds.
Storage:
- Temperature: Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to heat and direct sunlight.
- Keep away from children: Ensure the pack is stored out of the reach of children.
This medication is primarily for inhalation therapy and should not be administered orally or by injection. The nebulizer helps in delivering the medication directly to the lungs, providing quick relief from symptoms of respiratory conditions. Always consult your doctor before using any new medication, and follow their prescribed dosage.
