  • Ampoxin-CV 228.5 mg Syrup is a combination antibiotic syrup used to treat various bacterial infections. It contains Ampicillin and Clavulanic Acid, which work together to combat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections.

    Composition:

Each 5 ml of Ampoxin-CV Syrup contains:

    • Ampicillin 200 mg (as Ampicillin Trihydrate)
    • Clavulanic Acid 28.5 mg (as Potassium Clavulanate)

    What Each Ingredient Does:

    1. Ampicillin (200 mg):
      • Antibiotic (Penicillin class): Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. It interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the bacteria’s death. Ampicillin is effective against a wide range of bacterial infections, including both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
    2. Clavulanic Acid (28.5 mg):
      • Beta-lactamase inhibitor: Clavulanic acid is not an antibiotic by itself but helps Ampicillin overcome resistance caused by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria. These enzymes can break down penicillins, but clavulanic acid blocks their action, allowing Ampicillin to remain effective even against resistant strains of bacteria.

    Indications:

Ampoxin-CV Syrup is used to treat various bacterial infections, particularly those caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. Common conditions treated include:

    • Respiratory tract infections: Such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
    • Ear infections: Otitis media.
    • Urinary tract infections (UTIs): Including infections of the bladder, kidneys, or urethra.
    • Skin and soft tissue infections: Including cellulitis, abscesses, and infected wounds.
    • Dental infections: Infections of the gums, teeth, and oral cavity.
    • Gastrointestinal infections: Such as infections caused by Salmonella or E. coli.

    Dosage:

The recommended dosage of Ampoxin-CV Syrup depends on the age, weight, and the severity of the infection. Generally:

    • For Adults and Children Over 12 years: The typical dosage is 10 ml (400 mg of Ampicillin and 57 mg of Clavulanic Acid), taken every 8 hours (3 times a day).
    • For Children (under 12 years): The dosage is typically based on the child’s body weight and the severity of the infection. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage by the healthcare provider.
    • Dosage for infants and young children: Usually, 5 ml of the syrup contains 200 mg of Ampicillin and 28.5 mg of Clavulanic Acid, which will be adjusted by the doctor according to the child’s needs.
    • Shake the bottle well before each dose to ensure even distribution of the medication.

    Side Effects:

Some common side effects associated with Ampoxin-CV Syrup may include:

    • Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or upset stomach.
    • Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, or swelling (particularly in the face, lips, or throat). In rare cases, anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) may occur.
    • Fungal infections: Long-term use of antibiotics can lead to fungal infections, such as oral thrush or vaginal yeast infections.
    • Hematological effects: Rarely, it can cause changes in blood counts, such as leukopenia (low white blood cells), anemia (low red blood cells), or thrombocytopenia (low platelets).
    • Liver issues: Clavulanic acid may cause liver problems in some individuals, leading to jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
    • Kidney issues: In rare cases, kidney function may be affected by antibiotics like Ampicillin and Clavulanic Acid.

    Warnings and Precautions:

    • Allergic Reactions: If you have a history of allergy to penicillin, cephalosporins, or any beta-lactam antibiotics, you should not take Ampoxin-CV Syrup. It is important to inform your healthcare provider of any known allergies.
    • Kidney or Liver Problems: If you have liver disease or kidney problems, you may need a dosage adjustment, and your doctor may monitor your condition closely.
    • Diarrhea: Antibiotics like Ampoxin-CV Syrup can cause an overgrowth of bacteria such as Clostridium difficile in the intestines, which can cause severe diarrhea. If you experience persistent or severe diarrhea, contact your doctor immediately.
    • Prolonged Use: Extended use of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance. Always complete the prescribed course of treatment.
    • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Ampoxin-CV Syrup is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it is important to consult your doctor before use to ensure it is appropriate for your specific case.

    Storage:
