Composition:

• Spironolactone IP – 25 mg

• Excipients – q.s. (quantity sufficient)

Overview

Aldactone contains Spironolactone, a potassium-sparing diuretic and aldosterone antagonist. It is primarily used to treat conditions associated with fluid retention and hormonal imbalances. Spironolactone helps the body get rid of excess water without losing potassium.

Indications:

• Edema due to congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or nephrotic syndrome

• Hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Primary hyperaldosteronism

• Hypokalemia (low potassium levels)

• Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (off-label use in some cases)

Dosage:

• As directed by the physician

• Usually taken once or twice daily

• Can be taken with or without food

Precautions:

• Avoid in patients with high potassium levels (hyperkalemia) or severe kidney impairment

• Regular monitoring of electrolytes and kidney function is recommended

• May interact with ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and potassium supplements

Side Effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Breast tenderness or enlargement

• High potassium levels

• Nausea, stomach upset

• Skin rash (rare)
