Description

Minoz OD 100 mg Capsule – Strip of 10 Capsules

Composition

Each capsule contains:

  • Minocycline Hydrochloride USP, equivalent to Minocycline 100 mg

  • Excipients: q.s.

  • Colour: Titanium Dioxide IP

Dosage Form and Pharmaceutical Class

Minoz OD 100 mg is an oral capsule belonging to the tetracycline class of antibiotics. It is designed as a once-daily (OD) formulation, providing convenient dosing for systemic bacterial infections.

Description

The capsule is gelatin-coated for ease of swallowing. This higher-strength formulation (100 mg) is suitable for moderate to severe bacterial infections, including acne and certain respiratory or skin infections, where once-daily dosing is clinically appropriate.

Mechanism of Action

Minocycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing translation of essential proteins in susceptible bacteria. Its action is bacteriostatic, meaning it inhibits bacterial growth rather than killing bacteria directly.

Pharmacological Properties

  • Absorption: Well absorbed orally, with peak plasma concentrations within 1–2 hours.

  • Distribution: Widely distributed, including skin, soft tissue, and respiratory tract.

  • Metabolism: Partially metabolized in the liver.

  • Elimination: Excreted via renal and fecal routes.

  • Half-life: Supports once-daily dosing.

Therapeutic Indications

Minoz OD 100 mg is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Acne vulgaris (moderate to severe)

  • Respiratory tract infections

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Other susceptible bacterial infections as determined by a physician

It is not effective against viral infections.

Dosage and Administration

  • Typically once daily, with or without food.

  • Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.

  • Dosage and duration should be guided by physician recommendation based on infection type and severity.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to minocycline or other tetracyclines.

  • Children under 8 years, due to risk of permanent tooth discoloration and effects on bone growth.

  • Pregnancy: Avoid use due to potential fetal risks.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Monitor liver and kidney function in prolonged use.

  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure; use protective measures due to photosensitivity.

  • May cause dizziness or vertigo; use caution while driving.

  • Rarely, may cause intracranial hypertension or severe hypersensitivity reactions.

Adverse Effects

Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, headache, dizziness, rash, photosensitivity.
Serious (rare): Liver dysfunction, vestibular disturbances, severe allergic reactions.

Drug Interactions

  • Absorption may be reduced with antacids or supplements containing calcium, magnesium, iron, or zinc.

  • May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives.

  • Caution with retinoids or anticoagulants.

Use in Special Populations

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed.

  • Elderly: May be more susceptible to side effects.

  • Pediatric: Contraindicated under 8 years.

Overdose

Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, gastrointestinal irritation. Seek immediate medical attention.

Missed Dose

Take as soon as remembered unless it is near the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
