Description

Remo-Zen M 500 Tablet

Remo-Zen M 500 Tablet is a combination oral antidiabetic medication used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains:

  • Remogliflozin Etabonate 100 mg – an SGLT2 inhibitor

  • Metformin Hydrochloride IP 500 mg – a Biguanide

This combination provides dual action to improve blood sugar control in patients whose glucose levels are not adequately managed by diet, exercise, or monotherapy. The film-coated tablet ensures easy swallowing and optimal absorption.

. Composition

Ingredient Strength per Tablet Pharmacological Class
Remogliflozin Etabonate 100 mg SGLT2 Inhibitor
Metformin Hydrochloride IP 500 mg Biguanide (Antihyperglycemic)
Excipients q.s. Tablet formulation aids (binders, fillers, coating agents)

. Mechanism of Action

A. Remogliflozin Etabonate (SGLT2 Inhibitor)

  • Inhibits sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 in kidneys.

  • Reduces renal glucose reabsorption.

  • Increases glucose excretion in urine.

  • Lowers fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels.

. Metformin Hydrochloride (Biguanide)

  • Reduces hepatic gluconeogenesis.

  • Increases peripheral insulin sensitivity.

  • Improves glucose uptake by muscles.

  • Minimal risk of hypoglycemia when used alone.

The combination works via complementary mechanisms, targeting both renal glucose excretion and insulin sensitivity.

. Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption: Oral, well-absorbed; Metformin absorption mainly in small intestine.

  • Distribution: Metformin minimally protein-bound; Remogliflozin moderately bound.

  • Metabolism: Remogliflozin metabolized in liver; Metformin excreted unchanged in urine.

  • Excretion: Primarily via urine.

  • Half-life: Suitable for once or twice daily dosing, depending on physician recommendation.

. Indications / Therapeutic Uses

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with inadequate glycemic control using diet and exercise.

  • Can be used as initial combination therapy or as add-on therapy to monotherapy.

  • Helps reduce fasting plasma glucose, postprandial glucose, and HbA1c levels.

. Dosage and Administration

  • Adults: 1 tablet once or twice daily, preferably with meals (to reduce gastrointestinal side effects of Metformin).

  • Swallow whole; do not chew or crush.

  • Dose adjustments may be needed for renal impairment, elderly, or hepatic dysfunction.

. Benefits of Combination Therapy

  • Dual mechanism of action: renal glucose excretion + insulin sensitization.

  • Effective glycemic control for both fasting and postprandial glucose.

  • Convenient single tablet therapy, reducing pill burden.

  • May reduce side effects compared to higher doses of individual drugs.

. Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort (mainly Metformin).

  • Genitourinary: urinary tract infections (Remogliflozin).

  • Rare: lactic acidosis (Metformin), dehydration, hypotension.

  • Usually mild and transient; serious adverse effects are rare.

. Precautions

  • Monitor renal and liver function regularly.

  • Maintain adequate hydration to prevent dehydration and urinary infections.

  • Not recommended in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

  • Use in pregnancy/lactation only if prescribed.

. Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C.

  • Protect from light and moisture.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
