Candid Cream is a topical antifungal medication commonly used to treat various skin infections caused by fungi, such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch, candidiasis (yeast infections), and other fungal skin conditions. It is marketed by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and contains Clotrimazole as its active ingredient.
Active Ingredient:
- Clotrimazole (1%):
- Type: Antifungal agent.
- Action: Clotrimazole works by interfering with the cell membrane of the fungus, preventing it from growing and multiplying. This leads to the destruction of the fungus and eventual resolution of the infection.
Uses:
Candid Cream is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, such as:
- Ringworm (Tinea corporis)
- Athlete’s foot (Tinea pedis)
- Jock itch (Tinea cruris)
- Candidiasis (Yeast infections of the skin, commonly in warm, moist areas like the groin, armpits, or under the breasts)
- Other superficial fungal infections like seborrheic dermatitis.
How to Use:
- Application: Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area, typically 2–3 times a day or as directed by your healthcare provider.
- Clean the area: Wash and dry the affected area thoroughly before applying the cream.
- Continue treatment: Even if symptoms improve, continue using the cream for the full prescribed duration to ensure the infection is completely treated.
Dosage:
- The usual dosage is to apply the cream once or twice a day depending on the type and severity of the infection. Follow the instructions on the package or as prescribed by your doctor.
Common Side Effects:
- Local irritation: Mild burning, itching, or redness at the site of application may occur in some cases.
- Dryness or peeling of the skin: Some people may experience dryness or slight peeling as the infection heals.
- Rash: Rarely, some individuals may develop an allergic rash or other skin reactions.
Precautions:
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes: If the cream accidentally comes into contact with these areas, rinse immediately with water.
- Not for open wounds: Candid Cream should not be applied to open wounds or broken skin unless directed by your healthcare provider.
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before using Candid Cream if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the safety during these periods has not been extensively studied.
- Allergy alert: If you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the ingredients in the cream, do not use it.
Storage:
- Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Additional Tips:
- If you are treating a fungal infection in a warm, moist area (like the groin or feet), try to keep the area dry and clean, as fungi thrive in such environments.
- Fungal infections can be contagious, so avoid sharing personal items like towels or clothing while treating the infection.
- If your symptoms do not improve after using Candid Cream for the recommended duration (typically 2–4 weeks), or if they worsen, consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
