Description
Ketomac – Bottle of 110ml Shampoo
-
Ketomac Shampoo contains 2% Ketoconazole, an antifungal agent.
-
It’s mainly used to treat dandruff — helping reduce scalp flaking, scaling, itching, and inflammation.
-
It can also be used for fungal skin infections (on the scalp or other areas) — for example, fungal-induced conditions like seborrheic dermatitis and similar fungal scalp problems.
-
The way it works: Ketoconazole disrupts the fungal cell membrane (through inhibiting synthesis of a component called ergosterol), which weakens and kills the fungus/yeast — reducing flaking, itching and fungal growth.
How to use it (typical instructions)
-
Wet your scalp and hair thoroughly before application.
-
Apply sufficient shampoo to cover scalp (massage gently), leave for a few minutes, then rinse. Some sources say leave for ~5–10 minutes.
-
As a rough guideline: using it twice a week for 2–4 weeks is common if you have dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis. Once scalp condition improves, frequency may be reduced (e.g. once a week) to help prevent recurrence.
-
It’s for external use only. Do not swallow. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or broken skin.
Possible Side Effects & Precautions
Common / potential side effects include:
-
Scalp irritation — burning, itching, redness.
-
Dry hair or dryness of scalp.
-
Oily or dry scalp / changes in hair texture (in some cases) or hair discoloration — more often in chemically treated / grey hair.
-
Rarely, contact dermatitis or allergic reactions — if you are allergic to ketoconazole or any inactive ingredients.
Other important precautions:
-
Do not apply on severely damaged, inflamed or broken scalp skin.
-
Avoid contact with eyes/mouth — rinse immediately with plenty of water if accidental contact occurs.
-
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding: some sources advise consulting a doctor before use
-
If after 2–4 weeks there is no improvement (or if condition worsens), consult a doctor / dermatologist.
🧑⚕️ When & Who Should Use (and When to Avoid / be Cautious)
Good candidates:
-
People suffering recurring/ persistent dandruff or scalp flaking due to fungal causes (like dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis).
-
Fungal scalp/skin infections that respond to antifungal shampoo (if recommended by a doctor or dermatologist).
Use cautiously / avoid if:
-
You have known allergy to ketoconazole or azole antifungals.
-
Scalp skin is severely irritated, broken, inflamed or has wounds.
-
You are pregnant or breastfeeding — better to consult your doctor/dermatologist first.
-
You don’t have fungal scalp issues — using potent antifungal shampoo unnecessarily may dry or irritate your scalp/hair.
