Description
Cystelia 35 – Strip of 21 Tablets
Cystelia 35 is an oral contraceptive that contains a combination of two active ingredients: Cyproterone acetate (2 mg) and Ethinylestradiol (0.035 mg). It is used for birth control and to treat hormonal imbalances that lead to conditions like acne or excessive hair growth (hirsutism).
Composition:
- Cyproterone Acetate (2 mg): This is a synthetic progestin with anti-androgenic effects. It works by reducing the impact of male hormones (androgens), which can help manage conditions such as acne or hirsutism (excessive hair growth).
- Ethinylestradiol (0.035 mg): A synthetic form of estrogen, it helps regulate the menstrual cycle, suppress ovulation, and, when combined with Cyproterone acetate, serves as an effective contraceptive.
Indications:
- Contraception: Cystelia 35 is used as an oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. It is taken on a daily basis to inhibit ovulation and make the cervical mucus less favorable for sperm.
- Acne: It is used for the treatment of moderate to severe acne, particularly when other treatments have not been effective, by reducing androgenic activity that contributes to acne.
- Hirsutism: Cystelia 35 can help manage excessive hair growth (hirsutism) in women, especially when caused by high levels of male hormones (androgens).
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): It may be prescribed to help manage symptoms related to PCOS, such as acne and abnormal hair growth.
How It Works:
- Cyproterone Acetate: Works by blocking the effects of androgens (male hormones), thus reducing acne and excessive hair growth.
- Ethinylestradiol: Helps regulate the menstrual cycle and, in combination with Cyproterone acetate, prevents ovulation, making it an effective contraceptive.
Dosage:
- Cystelia 35 is taken once daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day break during which you will typically experience a withdrawal bleed (similar to a period).
- After the 7-day break, the next strip is started to continue the cycle.
Common Side Effects:
