CTD-T 6.25/40 Strip of 15 Tablets

Overview

CTD-T 6.25/40 is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Chlorthalidone 6.25 mg and Telmisartan 40 mg. This dual-action formulation is prescribed for the effective management of high blood pressure (hypertension), especially in patients who require more than one medication to achieve optimal blood pressure control. Combining a diuretic with an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) offers enhanced, long-lasting, and stable BP reduction.

Composition

Each uncoated tablet contains:

  • Chlorthalidone IP – 6.25 mg

  • Telmisartan IP – 40 mg

Description

CTD-T 6.25/40 works through two complementary mechanisms:

1. Chlorthalidone (6.25 mg)

A thiazide-like diuretic that helps lower blood pressure by:

  • Increasing urine output

  • Removing excess salt and water

  • Reducing blood volume

  • Lowering pressure on the blood vessels

Even at the low dose of 6.25 mg, Chlorthalidone provides prolonged BP-lowering action for up to 48–72 hours.

2. Telmisartan (40 mg)

An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that:

  • Relaxes blood vessels

  • Prevents narrowing of arteries

  • Reduces strain on the heart

  • Provides 24-hour sustained BP control

Together, these two medicines create a potent antihypertensive effect, offering better results than either drug alone.

Uses

CTD-T 6.25/40 is prescribed for:

  • Primary hypertension (high blood pressure)

  • Patients not controlled on monotherapy

  • Prevention of stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage

  • Long-term BP maintenance

It is especially useful in patients with:

  • High cardiovascular risk

  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD)

  • Diabetes-related hypertension

  • Fluid retention associated with hypertension

How CTD-T 6.25/40 Works

The combination works through:

Chlorthalidone:

  • Removes excess sodium and water

  • Reduces blood volume

  • Lowers peripheral vascular resistance

Telmisartan:

  • Blocks angiotensin II

  • Dilates blood vessels

  • Reduces blood pressure

  • Protects heart and kidneys

This combination results in smooth, sustained, and effective BP control throughout the day.

Benefits

  • Dual mechanism ensures strong BP reduction

  • Long-acting formulation with stable 24-hour control

  • Helps reduce risk of heart-related complications

  • Suitable for long-term hypertension management

  • Works well even in salt-sensitive and elderly patients

Side Effects

Most side effects are mild and temporary.

Common Side Effects:

  • Increased urination

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Dry mouth

Less Common Side Effects:

  • Low potassium levels

  • Low sodium

  • Increased uric acid (possible gout flare)

  • Muscle cramps

  • Slight increase in creatinine

  • Hypotension (low BP) in sensitive patients

Precautions

  • Monitor BP regularly

  • Check electrolytes, especially potassium & sodium

  • Avoid potassium supplements unless prescribed

  • Use caution in kidney or liver disease

  • Avoid dehydration

  • Not recommended during pregnancy

Drug Interactions

CTD-T 6.25/40 may interact with:

  • NSAIDs (reduce effect of the medicine)

  • Lithium (risk of toxicity)

  • Other diuretics

  • ACE inhibitors / ARBs

  • Antidiabetic medicines
