💊 Therapeutic Uses:

👁️ As Eye Drops:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis

  • Keratitis (corneal infection)

👂 As Ear Drops:

  • Otitis externa (outer ear infection)

  • Otitis media (with intact tympanic membrane)

  • Post-ear surgery inflammation/infection


⚙️ Mechanism of Action:

  • Ciprofloxacin: Inhibits bacterial DNA replication → kills bacteria

  • Dexamethasone: Suppresses inflammation, redness, swelling, and immune response
    → Together, they treat bacterial infections while reducing inflammatory symptoms


🧴 Dosage (Typical):

👁️ Eyes:

  • Instill 1–2 drops in the affected eye every 4–6 hours, or as prescribed

  • In severe infections, may use more frequently in initial 24–48 hours

👂 Ears:

  • Instill 3–4 drops in the affected ear 2–3 times daily

  • Tilt head for a few minutes after instillation

Duration: Usually 5–7 days (up to 14 days max), or as advised


⚠️ Precautions:

  • Do not use in viral or fungal infections

  • Not for long-term use – prolonged steroid use can lead to:

    • Increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma)

    • Cataract formation

    • Delayed wound healing

  • Avoid contact lens use during therapy

  • Avoid use if ear drum is perforated


Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, dexamethasone, or quinolones

  • Fungal or viral eye/ear infections (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella)
