🔹 USES / INDICATIONS

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

• Angina pectoris (Chest pain)

• Chronic heart failure (under medical supervision)

• Palpitations / Tachycardia

• Heart protection after heart attack (as advised)

🔹 MECHANISM OF ACTION

Bisoprolol selectively blocks β1-adrenergic receptors in the heart, leading to:

• Reduced heart rate

• Reduced cardiac workload

• Lower blood pressure

• Decreased oxygen demand of heart muscle

🔹 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

• Usual dose range: 2.5–10 mg once daily

• Bisonext 5 is generally taken once daily

• Take in the morning, same time every day

• Can be taken with or without food

• Swallow whole with water

⚠️ Do not stop abruptly

🔹 ONSET & DURATION

• Onset: 1–2 hours

• Peak effect: 3–4 hours

• Duration: Up to 24 hours

🔹 COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Fatigue or weakness

• Dizziness

• Slow heart rate

• Cold hands and feet

• Headache

• Mild nausea

🔹 SERIOUS (RARE) SIDE EFFECTS

• Very slow pulse

• Heart block

• Worsening heart failure

• Severe breathlessness

➡️ Seek medical help if fainting or severe breathlessness occurs.

🔹 PRECAUTIONS

• Diabetes: masks low blood sugar symptoms

• Asthma / COPD: use cautiously

• Thyroid disorders

• Elderly patients

• Liver or kidney disease

🔹 CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not use in:

• Severe bradycardia

• 2nd or 3rd degree heart block

• Cardiogenic shock

• Severe hypotension

🔹 DRUG INTERACTIONS

Use caution with:

• Verapamil, Diltiazem

• Digoxin

• Amiodarone

• Other antihypertensive drugs

• Insulin & oral antidiabetics

🔹 PATIENT COUNSELING POINTS

✔ Check BP and pulse regularly
✔ Do not miss or double doses
✔ Avoid alcohol initially
✔ Rise slowly from sitting position
