It works by drawing water into the colon, softening the stool, and promoting easier bowel movement. At the same time, it reduces ammonia absorption in patients with liver disease.

How It Works

1. Osmotic Laxative Action

• Lactulose reaches the large intestine without being absorbed in the body.

• It is broken down by intestinal bacteria into mild acids.
