Overview

CTD-12.5 is a prescription medication containing Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg, widely used for controlling high blood pressure (hypertension) and managing edema (fluid retention). Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic, known for its long duration of action and high effectiveness in lowering blood pressure. It helps protect the heart, kidneys, and blood vessels from long-term damage caused by uncontrolled hypertension.

Composition

Each uncoated tablet contains:

Description

CTD-12.5 works by increasing urine output, which helps remove excess salt and water from the body. This reduction in fluid volume results in a gradual decrease in blood pressure. Chlorthalidone also reduces peripheral resistance in the blood vessels, offering steady and prolonged BP control for up to 48–72 hours.

The 12.5 mg strength is considered an effective low-to-moderate dose, commonly used either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medications such as ACE inhibitors, ARBs, beta-blockers, or calcium-channel blockers. It is a preferred option in long-term hypertension management due to its stability, long half-life, and proven cardiovascular benefits.

How CTD-12.5 Works
