💊 Therapeutic Uses:

👁️ As Eye Drops:

• Bacterial conjunctivitis

• Corneal ulcers

• Blepharitis (eyelid infection)

• Post-surgical infections

• Eye trauma with secondary bacterial risk

👂 As Ear Drops:

• Otitis externa (swimmer’s ear)

• Bacterial otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear with intact tympanic membrane)

• Ear discharge from localized bacterial infection

⚙️ Mechanism of Action:

Ciprofloxacin is a bactericidal fluoroquinolone antibiotic that:

• Inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV

• Blocks bacterial DNA replication → leads to bacterial death
  Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa

🧴 Dosage (Typical):

👁️ For Eye Infections:

• 1–2 drops in the affected eye every 4–6 hours

• For corneal ulcers: initially every 15 minutes to 1 hour (as directed)

👂 For Ear Infections:

• 3–4 drops in the affected ear twice or thrice daily

• Tilt head sideways; remain in position for a few minutes

Duration: Typically 5–7 days, or as prescribed

⚠️ Precautions:

• Do not use in viral or fungal infections

• Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface

• Not for injection or oral use

• Remove contact lenses before application

• Avoid use in ear with perforated eardrum unless specifically advised
