Description
Diane 35 – Strip of 21 Tablets
Diane 35 is a medication that contains a combination of two active ingredients: Cyproterone acetate (2 mg) and Ethinylestradiol (0.035 mg). It is primarily used as an oral contraceptive (birth control pill) but also has other indications, such as managing conditions like acne or excessive hair growth (hirsutism) in women.
Composition:
- Cyproterone Acetate (2 mg): A synthetic progestin (a type of hormone) that has anti-androgenic effects. It helps reduce the production of male hormones (androgens) in the body, which can contribute to conditions like acne or excessive hair growth.
- Ethinylestradiol (0.035 mg): A synthetic form of estrogen, a female sex hormone. It works in combination with Cyproterone acetate to prevent ovulation and regulate the menstrual cycle.
Indications:
- Contraception: Diane 35 is used to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation and altering the cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching an egg.
- Acne: It is used for the treatment of moderate to severe acne in women, particularly when other treatments have not been effective.
- Hirsutism: Diane 35 is prescribed to manage excessive hair growth in women, especially when caused by elevated androgen levels.
- Other hormonal imbalances: It can also help treat conditions linked to hormone imbalances, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
How It Works:
- Cyproterone Acetate: Reduces the effects of male hormones (androgens), helping to control acne, excessive hair growth, and other androgen-related conditions.
- Ethinylestradiol: Helps regulate the menstrual cycle and, in combination with Cyproterone acetate, prevents ovulation, which is essential for contraception.
Dosage:
- Diane 35 is typically taken once daily for 21 days in a row, followed by a 7-day break during which menstruation typically occurs. The cycle is repeated each month.
- It is important to take the tablets at the same time each day for maximum effectiveness.
Common Side Effects:
- Nausea

Serious Side Effects (though rare):
- Blood clots: There is a small increased risk of blood clots, particularly in women who smoke or have other risk factors.
